How do I market a new restaurant before opening?

Get the Google Business Profile live and verified before you open, then spend the last four weeks building local anticipation and a soft-launch guest list. Opening week is the week your food is least consistent and your reviews carry the most weight. That is a dangerous combination. So the goal is a controlled start, with friendly rooms in the seats, rather than a crowd you have no way to serve properly.

Six to eight weeks out

Create and verify the Google Business Profile the moment you have signage and an address, marked as opening soon with a date on it. Verification takes time. Doing it during opening week is a mistake you make exactly once, so add the category now, the hours you plan to keep, and photographs of the space as it slowly comes together over the weeks.

Get the website up, with the menu written out as text, the location, and a way to register interest. It does not need to be elaborate. It needs to exist, and to be indexed, before people start searching your name.

Start an Instagram account and post the build, not stock food photography. The kitchen going in. The sign arriving. The first plating tests. Local audiences follow a construction story because it is genuinely interesting to them, and you quietly gather an audience that actually lives within five kilometres of your door.

The final three weeks

Run tightly targeted Meta ads in a small radius, each one carrying a date and a location. Keep it to awareness only. No offers here, because an offer aimed at people who cannot visit yet just burns the impression for nothing.

Talk to the neighbourhood directly. Knock on doors. Offices nearby, gyms, salons, and any residential WhatsApp group that will actually have you and pass your message along to the people living on that street. In Delhi NCR the RWA and condominium groups drive a surprising share of your early trade, and they cost nothing to reach as long as you approach them politely.

Invite local food creators. But choose them carefully, and pick people whose audience genuinely sits in your catchment. A creator with ninety thousand followers scattered across the country is worth less to you than one with eight thousand people in your own city.

Soft launch and the first reviews

Run two or three invite-only nights at reduced covers. Keep them small. Friends, family, the businesses next door, your suppliers. The kitchen finds its rhythm, the floor learns the flow, and you find the dish that takes too long before a paying room ever has to sit and wait for it.

Ask those guests for honest Google reviews, but only once the food is truly ready. Your first fifteen reviews shape the profile for months, and a rushed opening night can leave a mark that takes half a year to bury. So hold the formal launch back. Keep the press and the creator visits back too, until service is genuinely steady.

Should I offer opening discounts? +

A limited soft-launch discount, for invited guests only, makes good sense. A public opening discount does the opposite. It fills the room with deal seekers in the exact week your kitchen is least ready, which is about the worst combination you could pick for your early reviews.

How early can I set up the Google Business Profile? +

Google lets you list a business as opening soon, generally up to around ninety days ahead. Do it early. Set it up the moment the address and signage exist, because verification, and any hiccups that come with it, are far easier to sort out before you are busy than during your first rush.
