What is Speed to Lead?

Speed to lead is the time between someone submitting an enquiry and your team making contact. Measured in minutes, not days. Somebody filling a property form on a Sunday afternoon has usually filled three others in the same sitting, so whoever rings first gets the conversation and very often the sale that follows it.

Speed to Lead

How speed to lead actually works

Intent decays. A person researching apartments stays engaged for a short window and then something else takes their attention, so reaching them inside that window means they still remember which project they enquired about and are still in the frame of mind to talk about it.

Ring an hour later and they have moved on to lunch. Ring the next morning and they are at work, they have forgotten which of four forms was yours, and two other developers already spoke to them. You are not racing the clock. You are racing whoever else got the same enquiry.

Where teams get speed to lead wrong

Measuring the average, which hides the tail completely. If most leads get called in ten minutes but Sunday evening enquiries wait until Monday, the average looks fine while you quietly lose every weekend.

Second, having no coverage outside office hours, because Meta lead forms run all night and all weekend, and if nobody responds until Monday at ten then a sizeable share of your budget is buying leads that go cold before a human ever sees them. An automated WhatsApp acknowledgement holds the position.

Third, calling it a sales problem. Marketing controls whether leads hit the CRM instantly or arrive in a batch export every few hours, and that integration gap is fixable in an afternoon.

What good looks like in India

For Delhi NCR real estate the practical target is a first touch within five minutes during business hours, with an automated WhatsApp message going out immediately whatever the time, naming the project and the configuration they asked about and offering a specific next step rather than a generic thank-you.

Instrument it properly. Timestamp lead creation and first outbound contact, then report the median and the ninetieth percentile weekly. Teams that put that report on a wall tend to fix the problem without anyone running a project about it.

FAQ

Speed to Lead — questions, answered.

What is a realistic speed to lead target? +

Under five minutes during working hours for competitive categories like property, education and insurance. For lower-urgency B2B, an hour is often acceptable. The genuinely right target is simply faster than whoever else received the same enquiry.

Can automated WhatsApp replace a phone call? +

No, but it buys you time. An instant personalised message keeps you present while the enquiry is still fresh and gives the buyer something to reply to. Follow it with a call the moment a human is available.
