What is CRO?

CRO is the practice of increasing the percentage of visitors who take the action you want. More orders from the same traffic. It is the cheapest growth available to most brands, because you already paid to bring those people in and every point of improvement compounds across every campaign you run from that day forward.

Conversion Rate Optimisation

How CRO actually works

It runs as a loop. Find where people drop off using analytics, session recordings and heatmaps, form a hypothesis about why, build the change, test it against the current version, then keep or discard on the result.

The finding stage holds most of the value and gets the least time. GA4 funnel reports show which step loses people, session recordings show what those people were doing when they left, and support tickets plus post-purchase survey answers tell you what confused them in their own words. Then you have a hypothesis rather than an opinion.

Where teams get CRO wrong

Testing trivial things. Button colours and single-word headline swaps rarely produce effects large enough to detect at typical Indian traffic volumes, so you run a test for three weeks and finish knowing exactly what you knew before. Test changes big enough to matter.

Second, copying tactics from case studies, because what worked for a US software company on desktop traffic has almost nothing to say about your mobile-heavy store in Delhi.

Third, ignoring the largest leak, which is how teams end up polishing a product page while checkout quietly loses half its traffic to a shipping charge that appears at the last step. Work the biggest drop first.

What good looks like in India

For Indian e-commerce the recurring wins are consistent enough to check first: page load speed on mid-range Android over mobile data, UPI given proper prominence rather than hidden behind card fields, guest checkout without a forced account, delivery estimates by pin code, and return policy visible near the buy button.

For lead generation it is shorter forms, a WhatsApp alternative, and trust signals suited to the category. None of this is clever. It is the work most sites simply have not done.

FAQ

CRO — questions, answered.

How much traffic do I need for CRO? +

For statistically sound A/B testing, a few thousand conversions a month makes life considerably easier. Below that, focus on qualitative research and fixing obvious breakages, which delivers far more than underpowered tests ever will.

What should we optimise first? +

Whichever funnel step loses the most people. Pull a funnel report, find the largest percentage drop between two steps, and start there. It is usually checkout or the mobile product page, and it is rarely the homepage.
